 The Marking System

Many marks can be found under Sarreguemines products.  There are several kinds of marks: inscribed with a metal style, incised with a sharp instrument in the unfired paste, printed by a system of transfer on the biscuit, or applied with a stamp. Finally, there are various annotations in manuscript.

These inscriptions have various functions.  All this information is useful to identify an object and to determine its origin, paste, shape and decoration.  It also makes it possible to date the pieces.
