Two
Centuries of Faience
The reputation
of Sarreguemines faience is now well established. In two centuries
the small family business, which was created during the Revolution,
has come a long way. The numerous owners of these gay and colourful
pieces are scattered all over the world. Paul Utzschneider and Paul
de Geiger, two born leaders, propelled this small town to the forefront
of the faience industry.
From the 19th century onwards, Sarreguemines produced and sold all
over the world a vast collection of faience vases, flowerpot holders,
decorative panels for walls and fireplaces .
The Faience Trail
This original tour will delight tourists who love art, history and
beautiful objects. In one full day, visitors can learn all about
one of the most highly appreciated faience productions in the world.
The
New Museum of Faience Techniques
Open
since the end of October 1998, production workshops have been reconstituted
almost completely to attract visitors who are interested in faience.
This museum is unique in France and in Europe not only because of
its theme but also because of its original setting and scope.

collections of faience, including the magnificent "winter garden"
richly decorated by Schuller. Numerous pieces of 19th and
20th century faience, from flowerpot-holders to monumental fireplaces,
are displayed side by side
Sarreguemines Faience throughout
the world
A little perspicacity is usually enough to discover a number of
restaurants, butchers, fishmongers and other places which still
have a decor or functional and decorative objects in faience. Treasure

Nature of ceramics
Ceramics of nature
Jean Girel’s ceramics are polymorphic and imitate most various plants, strangest reptiles, most perfect stones, primary shells and sea-shells.

For him, ceramics are more than “means of expression” ; it’s a “way to grasp the universe”. This philosophical approach gives us in the end, 230 sophisticaded works of an unaffected style, which are enhanced through a very restrained presentation.
